If I play someone Right Back and wanted to keep them on the same side of the pitch would I play them on the Left of defence?

Seems obvious but i was wondering if the game engine does something wierd.

I've done my lineup this way, just for the sake of flow, but I would like to know the benefits or disadvantages too.

Looking at it I guess you would play them on the same side.
