I'm starting this topic to tell you all of the best sport in the world: Rugby

Currently rugby as a sport is second only to football in amount of participating countries (95 countries have national teams)

With the Super 14 starting soon I'm excited for my team team, the Stormers and hope they can make the semi-finals this year.

Any fans or players here? Who do you support? Any questions?

I live in Bourgoin Jallieu, a small town in France, and at the end of the garden of my house, there is the wall of the stadium of the local rugby team, who is among the 14 top teams in France !

American Football was created from rugby in the USA after the civil war there, before that rugby was the most popular sport there and the Harvard vs Yale rugby match is still the oldest recurring university sporting event in the USA.
Scrum became line of scrimmage, they took 'downs' from 'tackles' in rugby league (another rugby spin-off mostly played in Australia) and until fairly recently football players only passed backwards like in rugby.

In the Top 14 I like Stade Toulouse and Racing Metro, but I don't get to see it much on SA television.

I know all that about American Football. But actually, I think it's more spectacular...

About French teams, the "Stade Toulousain" is the most awarded team in France actually. The "Racing Metro" is a "new" team who just grew up from the second league level this year.
I don't know how the Top 14 is broadcasted around the world, but it seems normal that you heard only about the bigger teams...

Unfortunately the Dutch don't have a good rugby team I like the sport very much and mostly I try to see matches on tv. I always closely follow the world championship.

My favourite team are the All Blacks (New Zealand). Mostly because I like te country immensely and also because of their "Haka-ritual". During the WC I also support underdog teams such as all the small Polynesian countries (Fiji, Samoa etc..) I liked Argentina in the last WC

I absolutely don't like American Football. IMO Rugby is way more about tactics and intelligent teamplay in comparison to American Football. And I don't like them playing with big breast/shoulderplates in AF, give me natural roughness!!!
