It's not that easy, that same sentence in Afrikaans is: dan kan ons verder praat in Nederlands / Afrikaans en die res vir die gek hou.
It's close, and I understand it, but there's quite a lot of difference if you go word for word. Jan van Riebeeck's 17th century naval Dutch is where we get our Dutch words from. For example we don't have "ij" we use "y" and although I can figure out written Dutch I think the I would struggle to hold a spoken conversation. The closest European language to Afrikaans is apparently Flemish.
