Gentlemen, I know we’re already at a fairly late stage of the tournament, but the best is still ahead of us!
There have been a lot of surprises over the last 2 - 3 days when it comes to match results - for me personally, France’s loss to Spain was a huge shock, although La Furia Roja are no ordinary team and they know how to play effective handball!
So I’m all ears - what are your picks for the final round of knockout-stage games before we move on to the semifinals?
Who’s your favorite to win it all, who has completely disappointed you, and who can be considered the dark horse of the tournament? Let’s discuss!
Matches on 27.01:
Switzerland – Iceland
Slovenia – Croatia
Sweden – Hungary
My picks are Iceland, who will likely want to seal their spot in the semifinals, Sweden, and Slovenia - who I hope, just like in previous games, will keep chasing, chasing, and eventually catch Croatia at the very end
As for winning the whole tournament, I’m hoping Denmark will get the job done and finally claim the trophy they’ve been missing in recent years.
A big disappointment for me, as a Pole, is the Polish national team, which for several years now has been unable to build a squad capable of truly competing. Unfortunately, tournament after tournament it only looks worse, and we’re finishing this year’s edition without a single win - losing even to Italy. No disrespect to our opponents, but Poland won a World Championship bronze in 2015 and consistently finished in the TOP 10 at the EHF Euro between 2006 and 2016…
As for the dark horse of this tournament, from the very beginning I believed it would be Portugal, and their win over Denmark only strengthened that belief |
